Joanna Benner scored two of Dock’s three goals in the open­ing 30 min­utes and the eighth-seeded Pi­o­neers shut RuW viViWiQJ 1R. 9 LRwHU More­land 3-0 in the Dis­trict 2QH CODVV AA fiUVW URuQG Tues­day af­ter­noon.

“We had a sore loss the last game af­ter a great win WKH fiUVW JDPH WKDW wH SODyHG them. So, we wanted to come out to dis­tricts strongly,” Benner said. “We had a good break last week and so we wanted to just show them in the be­gin­ning that we can dom­i­nate this game. And that’s what we did, we came out strong.”

Tay­lor Sch­woyer added a goal on a penalty stroke as Christo­pher Dock is back in WKH GiVWUiFW TuDUWHU­fiQDOV DIWHU a one-year ab­sence. The Pi­o­neers visit top-seeded Villa 0DUiD — wKiFK KDG D fiUVWround bye — Thurs­day. A vic­tory over the Hur­ri­canes puts Dock in the Class AA VHPiV IRU WKH fiUVW WiPH ViQFH 2008.

“It’ll be a tough game. They’re very good, they’re very quick, they’re very fast and they’re very ex­pe­ri­enced,” said Dock coach Michelle Wald­spurger of Villa 0DUiD. “6R, wH’OO GH­fiQiWHOy be chal­lenged.”

For the Pi­o­neers, it was the fiUVW WiPH WKHy KDG VFRUHG DW least three goals in the game since blank­ing Plum­stead Chris­tian 3-0 on Sept. 28.

“We’ve been hav­ing trou­ble cap­i­tal­iz­ing in the circle like this whole sea­son,” Benner said. “So it was great to be able to come out right away and get some goals be­cause it hasn’t been that way pretty much the whole sea­son.”

Christo­pher Dock (11-8-0 over­all) split its two games DJDiQVW LRwHU 0RUHODQG in the reg­u­lar sea­son. Dock topped its Bi­cen­ten­nial AthOHWiF LHDJuH UivDO 2-1 DW home on Oct. 3, while fal­liQJ WR WKH KRVW LiRQV 2-1 RQ Oct. 13.

“They came out strong, they wanted to win bad,” said Wald­spurger of her team’s dis­trict ef­fort. “My se­niors have played well this sea­son and they wanted to take it to them. They played well.”
