Soundings - - Mail Boat - — Jack Sherwood

I was genuinely touched by Bill Sisson’s “Under Way” and the tribute to my “Bay Tripper” column in last month’s Mail Boat. A tip of my beat- up hat to the Soundings editors and readers for all the kind words regarding my decision to retire my column. It was a good, happy run of 17 years, and I will miss writing “Tripper,” if not the monthly deadlines. But I’d rather be sailing, and I will be contributing stories to Soundings as a writer- at- large — perhaps for the next 17 years, who knows? Older men must learn to adapt to their physical limitations and continue on with the sailing life at a brisk pace.
