I love reading Soundings. I always find articles that seem to come right out of my own boating experiences. Such was the case with Tom Neale’s “A Big Sportfish and Trouble At The Bridge” [“Sea Savvy,” July]. Having lived near and cruised the ICW for most of my life, I have witnessed the value of a relationship between a skipper and a bridge tender more than once. I, too, carry a hand-held VHF radio in my car and have often chatted with friends on the water, though never a bridge tender. Maybe that experience still awaits me.
And we’ve witnessed more than once the lack of concern for smaller vessels, with families — young and old — who suffer from wake impact on their boats. Winston Fowler Elon, North Carolina
