Mary South’s “No Time Like The Present” is a great article [“Underway,” October]. Last summer I was faced with another season of not having a boat in the water. After much thought, I pulled my 17-foot Boston Whaler out of mothballs. Off came the shrink wrap!
The Whaler I have owned since 1974 had been restored a few years ago but never used. The 1978 85-hp Evinrude started, but I was concerned about dependability ( and my good friend wanted it), so I bought a 2017 70-hp Yamaha. What an engine — fast, dependable, economical. Mary might consider repowering her West Pointer with one.
The Whaler and new outboard have been great. Maybe I will pull out the water skis. Best of all, I can pull it out of the water and put it in the yard if bad weather is predicted. Chris Carroll
