South Florida Sun-Sentinel Palm Beach (Sunday) - - LOCAL - By Brett Clarkson South Florida Sun Sentinel

The grieving mother of a 14-year-old girl who was killed in the shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School wrote in an opinion piece published Monday that she has “lost faith in America.”

Jennifer Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime Guttenberg was one of the 17 people killed in the Feb. 14 mass shooting at the Parkland high school, criticized elected officials from President Donald Trump on down for their seeming unwillingness to do anything about gun violence.

“We are currently living in a country where these things occur way too often and our leaders simply do n o t c a r e,” G u t t e n b e rg wrote in the piece, pub- lished Monday in Newsweek.

Guttenberg wrote that as of October 27 there have been close to 200 mass shootings in the United States, including the massacre of 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh by an apparent anti-Semitic extremist.

“I’m sorry to say that I have lost faith in America,” Guttenberg wrote.
