Har­lem Re­nais­sance Gala cel­e­brates 15 years

FORT LAUD­ERDALE, Fla. – The African American Re­search Li­brary and Cul­tural Cen­ter (AARLCC) will cel­e­brate its 15th an­niver­sary at 6 p.m., Fri­day, Oct. 13 with the fes­tive gala, “Florid­i­ans and The Har­lem Re­nais­sance.”

The an­nual oc­ca­sion cel­e­brates Florid­i­ans who con­trib­uted to the mu­sic, art and lit­er­a­ture of the Har­lem Re­nais­sance. It is spon­sored by the Friends of the AARLCC, a 501c3 non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion.

The an­niver­sary cel­e­bra­tion is AARLCC’s pri­mary source of fund­ing for youth and chil­dren’s pro­gram­ming as well as its spe­cial col­lec­tions, which has more than 1 mil­lion items, in­clud­ing rare books, ar­tif acts, art­work, manuscripts and ref­er­ence ma­te­ri­als.

AARLCC’s spe­cial col­lec­tions pre­serve and pro­vide ac­cess to re­search ma­te­ri­als fo­cus­ing on the his­tory and cul­ture of peo­ple of African American and Caribbean de­scent.

Spon­sors in­clude FPL, Vis­tas Health­care, Nova South­east­ern Univer­sity, South­ern Glazer’s Wine and Spir­its, JM Fam­ily En­ter­prises and Rolls Voice En­ter­tain­ment.

The ac­claimed Dil­lard High School Jazz Band fea­tur­ing Shenita Hunt, Michael Kennedy, Tony Thomp­son and artists from the Dil­lard Per­form­ing Arts High School will per­form at this year’s gala.

Cock­tails and a rov­ing feast will be served. Tick­ets are $125.
