Harlem Renaissance Gala celebrates 15 years
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) will celebrate its 15th anniversary at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13 with the festive gala, “Floridians and The Harlem Renaissance.”
The annual occasion celebrates Floridians who contributed to the music, art and literature of the Harlem Renaissance. It is sponsored by the Friends of the AARLCC, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
The anniversary celebration is AARLCC’s primary source of funding for youth and children’s programming as well as its special collections, which has more than 1 million items, including rare books, artif acts, artwork, manuscripts and reference materials.
AARLCC’s special collections preserve and provide access to research materials focusing on the history and culture of people of African American and Caribbean descent.
Sponsors include FPL, Vistas Healthcare, Nova Southeastern University, Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, JM Family Enterprises and Rolls Voice Entertainment.
The acclaimed Dillard High School Jazz Band featuring Shenita Hunt, Michael Kennedy, Tony Thompson and artists from the Dillard Performing Arts High School will perform at this year’s gala.
Cocktails and a roving feast will be served. Tickets are $125.
Floridians who contributed to the Harlem Renaissance will be honored at the AARLCC upcoming gala.
