FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In the spirit of embracing individuality and accepting the differences of others, ArtServe presents the inaugural “True Colors” exhibition, which opened October 5 and will run through November 4.

The multi-media art exhibition kicks off with a free gallery reception tonight, October 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at ArtServe 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

The reception will feature a traditional Mexican dance performance from Jim Hammond’s Florida Day of the Dead Festival along with food, music and an Online People’s Choice Award.

“True Colors” displays more than 120 pieces from 60 local artists in exploration of identity and diversity along all spectrums, including works on LGBTQ issues, First Amendment rights, race and ethnicity, women's rights and more.

Featured in the show is ArtServe artist-inresidence Lori Pratico, whose work with Girl Noticed speaks to women's empowerment and independence.

“At such a tumultuous time in our nation’s social and political climate, we thought it was important to put together an art exhibition that emphasizes the importance of being true to one’s self while also respecting others from all walks of life,” said ArtServe President and CEO Jaye Abbate.“’True Colors’ is an opportunity for artists to make bold statements, dispel misconceptions and let their true colors shine through.”

ArtServe gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free.
