OKLAHOMA CITY has been the home to the USTRC’s Cinch National Finals for the past 21 years out of its 29-year existence. Watch history be made with the USTRC’s new motto, Experience the Difference. Changes to this year’s Finals include trucks and tractors, changes to the Ladies’ Cinch roping, a #7 pick/ draw, and the Junior NFR qualifiers and Jr. Looper ropings. Come join the fun and Experience the Difference, Oct. 21 through Oct. 27, and don’t forget to stop by the Lazy E Arena on your way through for the Guthrie NFTR Championships from Oct. 20 to Oct. 26.
Trying to find something to help fuel yourself? Check out local restaurants that have been catering to the ropers like Cattlemen’s Steakhouse ( cattlemensrestaurant.com) and Trapper’s Fishcamp & Grill ( pearlsokc.com/ restaurants/trappers-fishcamp-grill). As most know, Cattlemen’s and Trapper’s are a great bang for your buck. Taste the delicious steaks at Cattleman’s, or head on over to Trapper’s for some gator.
Speaking of Trapper’s, there is a new addition to the famous restaurant, The Bourbon Bar. While you’re enjoying the taste of the sea, have the bartender pour you a drink from a selection of 150 different bourbons. Or, head on over to Chisholm’s Saloon (405-949-0423) to enjoy some live music and dancing.
Getting tired of sitting in the stands watching the roping all day? There’s boots, chaps, and cowboy hats…. Okay, this isn’t a Garth Brooks song. Walk down the steps and enjoy shopping at the Teskey’s, Cinch, Gist, or Resistol Hats booths, and so much more.
The USTRC’s sponsors are stepping up in a BIG way in 2018, with a prize line that includes Bob’s Custom Saddles, Gist buckles loaded with stones (See page 18 for more on those!), Yeti coolers, Resistol USTRC 30X felt hats, Ram Truck vouchers, Case Tractors, Tony Lama Boots, and, of course, gear from our NFTR title sponsor, Cinch Jeans and Shirts. After you get your horses tucked away in their stalls, stroll the concourse to set your sites on the goodies you’ll take home when you win big in the Jim Norick’s red dirt arena!
The USTRC’s Cinch NFTR has always been known for its kid- and adult-friendly goat roping, but this year will be a little different. Watch some of the toughest young guns in the business rope in the Junior ropings. Oct. 22 will start off the first junior event, which is the Open Junior NFR; followed by Oct. 24 with the #10 Junior NFR; and—let’s hear it for the little guys and gals—the Jr. Looper 6 & Under, and the 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 age groups, which will also rope on Oct. 27.
We’ve seen the best ladies in the business dominate in the Cinch Ladies Championships years and years in a row. This year, the Cinch Ladies Championships is a #10 roping with a #8 incentive, and both ends are capped at a 6-Elite. The champions of this prestigious roping will receive trophy Bob’s Custom Saddles and a complete Cinch Ladies wardrobe. But wait, there’s an additional bonus. If the champions are wearing Cinch Jeans and Shirts apparel, they will also receive $1,000 cash as a bonus prize. First through third in the average and first in the incentive average will also receive one generic discounted entry option at the 2018 NFTR for the remaining
Trucks and Tractors galore
Who doesn’t love a new ride? Get entered in the Case Tractor IH #16 for a shot at a brand-new Case Tractor ( caseih.com) awarded to the champions. If you’re entered up in the #12 Exclusive on down to the #8 Exclusive, then you’ve put yourself right in the running for a $10,000 Ram Truck voucher.
Guthrie NFTR Championships
Need a little warm-up? Head over to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie for the Guthrie NFTR Championships held in conjunction with the USTRC’s Cinch NFTR. Starting on Saturday, Oct. 20 to Friday, Oct. 26, you can rope all day long for $150 per roper in each roping. There is also a practice pen that will be open daily. Ropings start with the #16 all the way down to the #8. They will be giving away, in total, 34 trophy Yeti coolers to the average winners in each roping and six trophy Bob’s Custom Saddles to the average winners of the #10 on Oct. 25 and the #9 and #8 on Oct. 26. In each roping, the top 10 places in the average will have a discounted entry option at the 2018 NFTR.
Another new treat this year is the #7 pick/draw. This roping will be held on Oct. 27. It is capped at a straight 4, and you must have your pick partner. Your second run will then be drawn. This roping will be a three-steer average, progressive after the first round. Plus, it will offer a full prize line!
The week is long, and we all get restless, so the USTRC has 24 host hotels. When you call any of the host hotels, don’t forget to ask for the USTRC rate before you book—not after. These hotels are here for the roper. Make sure to log on to ustrc.com and check out the list of hotels.
