Surprise! It turns out the Pacific Ocean has been hiding a continent this whole time. Researchers confirmed that a 2-million-square-mile landmass dubbed Zealandia lies mostly underwater, with New Zealand at its peak. Many thought this was the case, but researchers recently verified by finding that the crust is thicker than the ocean floor and the geology is distinct from other areas. Wait a few thousand years and researchers may find traces of the ancient hubs Florida and Texas in the deep.
