FZ-10 MODS DISCLAIMER
Read with interest the mods you guys performed on the FZ-10, uncorking 16 hp with a pipe and re- map! Reminds me of the ’80s and the gains we used to see then with just a new pipe and jet kit.
In this day and age though, ditching the catalytic converter and re- mapping for a richer mixture, aren’t you violating several state and federal laws if you operate the modified bike on the street? Does the Graves pipe indicate it is legal for on- road use?
Didn’t Harley- Davidson just pay a whopping big fine for doing the same with OEM equipment and take the whole Screamin’ Eagle product lineup out of production? You also note you dumped the decibel limiter ring, so now it also violates the noise limits for a road- legal motorcycle as well?
While we know “everybody does it,” I think you owe the readers a note to say, “While these changes are possible, they can legally only be done to a motorcycle destined for track or off- road use only and may void the manufacturer’s warranty and cause harm to the environment.”
Good point, and thanks for reminding us that a disclaimer is probably a good idea with modification stories now in this day and age of heightened scrutiny with regards to mods. Mr. Niesel has earned himself a pair of Aria Gore-tex boots from the great people at Motonation.
The newest addition to the Sidi Gore-tex lineup, the Aria is a mid- height touring boot that features the highly breathable yet waterproof membrane to keep your feet not only dry but cool and comfortable too. Tecnomicro synthetic leather, Cordura, and soft TPU make up the outer construction, with a nylon composite inner sole with removable arch support pad. Protection consists of a fully encapsulated heel cup, an internal toe cup, internal ankle pads, and internally padded shin plate. Double- stitched in all high- stress areas, the Aria also features a Dupont polymer toe shift pad, Sidi non- slip sole, a side zipper/ Velcro flap closure system with an elastic panel adjacent to the entry zipper that allows a bind- free pull and excellent fi t, and reflective panels on the back for nighttime visibility.
Available in black only, in sizes 6–15 (Euro sizes 39–50), the Sidi Aria Gore-tex retails for $250. For more information, log on to motonation.com. —Ed.
