Rambo leads Terps to Final 4
La Salle grad scores eight points in win over Albany
Matt Rambo (Glenside/la Salle) had four goals and four assists to finish with a career-high eight points for the second straight game as the Maryland men’s lacrosse team advanced to its fourth consecutive Final Four with an 18-9 victory over Albany in the NCAA quarterfinals Sunday.
In the win, Rambo became the first Maryland player to record 40 goals and 40 assists — he has 40 goals and 43 assists so far this season — and tied for the program’s alltime goals lead at 153.
The Terrapins, the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, face No. 5 Denver in the national semifinal 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Winner faces No. 3 Ohio State or Towson for the national title Monday, May 29.
• Laura Frankenfield (North Wales/wissahickon) finished with one assist, one ground ball, one caused turnover and one draw control as the Boston College women’s lacrosse team reached its first-ever Final Four with a 20-14 victory over Southern California in the NCAA quarterfinals last Saturday.
Frankenfield had a two goals and assists in both of the Eagles first two win in the NCAA Tournament — 21-9 over Canisius in the first round May 12 and 21-10 over Syracuse May 14.
Boston College takes on Navy in the national semifinals 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts with winner facing either Maryland or Penn State in the national title game Sunday.
