Ramp provides new access to Deer Creek in Mississippi Delta
ARCOLA — Boaters and kayakers are gaining easier access to a waterway flowing through the Mississippi Delta.
The Delta Democrat-Times reports workers are building a boat ramp leading into Deer Creek in the tiny town of Arcola. It will be the first ramp in the town.
The 163mile creek starts in Bolivar County, and meanders through Washington, Sharkey, Issaquena and Warren counties.
Ronnie Yarber, board chairman of the Deer Creek Watershed Association, says said providing easy access to Deer Creek should boost tourism and allow the community to host fishing tournaments.
The ramp is expected to be finished in May.
