EMCC's Scott, Up­shaw hon­ored

SCOOBA – For their in­di­vid­ual ef­forts dur­ing last week's 49-3 home win over na­tion­ally ranked Holmes, East Mis­sis­sippi Com­mu­nity Col­lege's Lind­sey Scott Jr. and Duke Up­shaw have been re­spec­tively picked the MACJC's Of­fen­sive and De­fen­sive Play­ers of the Week.

Scott, a fresh­man quar­ter­back, ac­counted for 502 yards of to­tal of­fense and six touch­downs to lead the top-ranked EMCC Lions to last week's vic­tory over then-No. 15 Holmes. The LSU trans­fer com­pleted 32-of-39 passes for 452 yards and five touch­downs against the Bull­dogs, while adding 50 rush­ing yards and one score on nine at­tempts.

For the sea­son, Scott cur­rently ranks third among NJCAA sta­tis­ti­cal lead­ers in pass­ing yards per game (307.3 yards per game) as well as rat­ing fourth na­tion­ally in pass com­ple­tion per­cent­age (68.7 per­cent) and pass­ing touch­downs (15).

Up­shaw, a sopho­more de­fen­sive back from Bald­wyn, was cred­ited with 10 to­tal tack­les, a 29-yard in­ter­cep­tion re­turn and two pass breakups in the win over Holmes. As a team last week, the Lions lim­ited the Bull­dogs to 152 rush­ing yards – 236 yards un­der their NJCAA-lead­ing, pergame av­er­age head­ing into the game.

Along with Hinds kick re­turner DeMichael Har­ris as the MACJC's Spe­cial Teams Player of the Week, EMCC's Scott and Up­shaw are now nom­i­nated for na­tional awards from the Na­tional Ju­nior Col­lege Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion.

Own­ers of a 17-game over­all win­ning streak and win­ners of 28 con­sec­u­tive reg­u­lar-sea­son di­vi­sion games, coach Buddy Stephens' 6-0 EMCC Lions will travel to Se­na­to­bia Thurs­day to take on 10th-ranked North­west Mis­sis­sippi in a re­match of last year's MACJC state cham­pi­onship game won (38-30) by EMCC. Kick­off for the Top 10 show­down is set for 6:30 p.m. at Ranger Sta­dium at Bobby Franklin Field.
