The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. ◆ Unity Park Nominations — The Unity Park Advisory Committee will accept nominations for 2018 honorees who have contributed to civil rights in Oktibbeha County from Oct. 1 - Nov. 15. ◆ WWI Special Collections at MSU — Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library Mississippi State University will host discussion of the Choctaw Code Talkers’ significant role in communications during World War I

◆ Audobon Society — The Oktibbeha Audubon Society will meet Oct. 12 at 7:00pm in MSU’s Clay Lyle Entomology Building. Dr. Jeff Harris will present “eBird a Platform for Recording and Sharing Birding Observations and Checklists.” The public is invited
