ICC softball play­ers hon­ored

FUL­TON – Five mem­bers of Itawamba Com­mu­nity Col­lege's softball team have been cho­sen All-Re­gion by the Na­tional Ju­nior Col­lege Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion and Na­tional Fast­pitch Coaches As­so­ci­a­tion, coach Andy Kirk an­nounced on Wed­nes­day.

Sopho­more pitcher/in­fielder Bailie Spring­field was se­lected NJCAA All-Re­gion team and was se­lected as a first-team Spring­field mem­ber of the NFCA South All-Re­gion squad.

Spring­field, the MACJC Pitcher of the Year, set the record for most wins in a sea­son by go­ing 20-5 for the year. She added one save and a 1.54 ERA. The South­ern Miss com­mit had seven shutouts, and led the team with 123 strike­outs in 150.1 in­nings pitched. At the plate, the for­mer East Web­ster player had a .296 bat­ting av­er­age with 21 RBI and 25 runs scored. She had 40 hits with teamhighs in dou­bles (11) and triples (three) and a pair of home runs. Spring­field only struck out five times in 135 at-bats to go along with her .342 on-base per­cent­age and .467 slug­ging per­cent­age.

Fresh­man pitcher/in­fielder Olivia Burns (Gre­nada) also earned a spot on the NJCAA All-Re­gion team. Burns fin­ished the sea­son 19-4 with a 1.66 ERA while toss­ing six shutouts and 105 strike­outs in 135.0 in­nings of work. She bat­ted .318 with 16 RBI and 13 runs scored in 88 at-bats. Burns added a .365 on-base per­cent­age and a .330 slug­ging per­cent­age.

Sopho­more out­field­ers Cori Childs and Meg Sul­li­van along with fresh­man catcher Sa­man­tha Con­ley were also se­lected to NFCA South All-Re­gion teams.

Childs, a first-team se­lec­tion, had 49 hits and a .331 bat­ting av­er­age. She recorded five dou­bles, two triples and a team-best 52 runs while suc­cess­fully steal­ing a team-high 49 bases on 51 at­tempts to be­come the In­di­ans' all-time steals leader with 78 ca­reer stolen bases.

Sul­li­van, a first-team mem­ber, fin­ished the sea­son with team-highs in bat­ting av­er­age (.414); on-base per­cent­age (.474); slug­ging per­cent­age (.602); hits (55); dou­bles (11) and home runs (4). She was sec­ond on the team with 30 RBI and 21 stolen bases while only strik­ing out three times in 133 at-bats.

Con­ley, a sec­ond-team se­lec­tion, hit .343 this sea­son with 49 hits and a team-high 11 dou­bles, one triple and a home run in 143 at-bats. She had 36 RBI and 23 runs scored to go along with a .399 on-base per­cent­age and .455 slug­ging per­cent­age. Col­lege Base­ball NCAA Di­vi­sion I Re­gion­als Glance
