On the Road
Our longtime readers will remember the early days of the STREETRODDER Road Tours. It was just me racking up miles and killing bugs in whatever that year’s Tour car happened to be. I was running down the road and going from one NSRA event to another. There was no real schedule or plan, but I would run from when the sun came up to when the sun went down. During those long days of summer that could mean traveling 800-900 miles in a day. After 10 years of that madness things calmed down a little as we invited other rodders to join me in the fun. We were still going from one event to another but the miles per day dropped down to 200-300 with stops along the way. In recent years things really got tame as we decided that it was fun to stay in one city for a whole week and take daytrips. We saw lots of places and came back to the “house” each evening. We were getting kind of soft. Well, that is over with the AMSOIL Road Tour.
After a fun week on the Cruisin’ the Coast Tour we will saddle up in Biloxi, Mississippi, and punch
Surf City, Huntington Beach, California, into the GPS. I will save you doing the math. It is 2,000 miles and we want to be there Friday afternoon for some free burgers at the STREET RODDER Tech Center in Santa Ana. Giddyap!
Sunday night, we camp in Katy, Texas, just west of Houston. On Monday we’ll stop and say “Howdy” to Jack Chisenhall, Rick Love, and the Vintage Air team before we press onto Ozona, Texas. On Tuesday it is a whole bunch of west Texas and we land in Las Cruces, New Mexico, for the evening. On Wednesday, it will be a beautiful drive through New Mexico and Arizona before we land in Phoenix. Thursday is a short but hot run across the desert to Palm Springs, California. That should put us in Santa Ana at our STREET RODDER Tech Center just in time for supper on Friday. On Saturday we will visit United Pacific headquarters in Long Beach and take a look at a little dinghy called the Queen Mary.
We will be adding some stops along the way during the week, but I think you get the idea. This one is not for the faint of heart. The other cool thing: this will be Road Tour #2 of the Lokar Triple Play Challenge. Complete the Cruisin’ the Coast Tour, the AMSOIL INC. Tour, and the Sherm’s Plating Tour as we head to the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield and you will get a commemorative jacket and the right to say that you are officially bonkers. Come on, it will be fun!

After Cruisin’ the Coast of Mississippi for a fun-filled week, the AMSOIL INC. Road Tour heads west. One of our stops will be in the heart of Texas to see our Vintage Air friends in San Antonio. Our ultimate destination is Huntington Beach in Southern California.
