Pompadour

Sun Sentinel Broward Edition - Showtime - Broward - - ON STAGE -

Aside from talent, you know what many great guy singers have? Great hair. At least that’s the premise of the new revue “Pompadour” at Stage Door Theatre in Margate. With a quintet of five male vocalists, the show combs through five decades of music, from the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley to Jose Feliciano and the Temptations. Michael Leeds, the show’s co-creator, explains the spark of the show: “A few years ago, I was browsing through CDs, and it was surprising to see the number of current male artists, like Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, who sported the classic pompadour.” Kevin Black, the co-creator and choreographer, adds: “First and foremost, we needed a multitalented cast. After over a year of auditioning, we found our five guys, who not only have incredible voices, but are also very talented dancers, tappers and play piano, sax and acoustic guitar.” When: Dec. 26-Jan. 31, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 2 p.m. matinees Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
