The poker room at Palm Beach Kennel Club (1111 N. Congress Ave., West Palm Beach; 561-683-2222; PBKennelClub.com) is again showing that it pays to lose.

On Aug. 4, a “loser” won $140,194 in a hand of $2-$4 limit hold’em, while the “winner” won $70,097. Each of the six other players at the table walked away with $11,682.

At PBKC, if a player has four 10s or better but loses, she or he pockets half of the badbeat jackpot. The winner gets 25 percent, and the other players share the remaining quarter.

Eddie Prise, of West Palm Beach, was the loser. Riviera Beach’s Catherine Rosendary was the winner. “Mr. Prise had four queens and Ms. Rosendary had a straight flush to the six of hearts,” says Josh Alderman, assistant poker room manager. “The board was interesting because in this case the cards came ‘perfect perfect,’ meaning there was only one possible way to hit the bad beat.”

The last time someone won PBKC’s badbeat jackpot was March 4, when the loser took home $60,160.
