Tracy Morgan will turn things inside out on tour

Sun Sentinel Broward Edition - Showtime - Broward - - COMING UP - By Phillip Valys

Fresh off the second-season renewal of his acclaimed TBS series “The Last O.G.,” comedian Tracy Morgan announced a standup tour that will stop Nov. 3 at Hard Rock Event Center in Hollywood.

Reserved-seat tickets cost $50-$70 and will go on sale today via Ticketmas and pay-by-phone (800-745-3000). Cell phones must be locked inside Yondr cases, a protective pouch that prevents guests from using phones during the show, according to a press release.

Like Tig Notaro, Maria Bamford and Richard Pryor before him, Morgan in recent years has been turning his near-death accident in June 2014 into brash and insightful comedy. His ongoing recovery from a limousine crash that killed his best friend James McNair and left Morgan in a coma is frequently visited in his 2017 Netflix comedy special, “Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive.”

In a 2016 interview with South, Morgan said surviving critical injuries helped him tap into new reservoirs of comedy. “Being near death. Going through therapy, being in a wheelchair,” Morgan said. “All my life, I’ve used things, bad things, doors closing in my face … and I’ve made fun of it. So I’m doing the same things. I’ve taken tragedy and turned it inside out, which is comedy.”

Details are scarce about the subject matter of his new standup tour, but Morgan appears to be at the top of his game. The 49-year-old comic earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 10, and the TBS series that he produces with “Get Out” director Jordan Peele, “The Last O.G.,” finished airing its first season June 5. It stars Morgan as a stubborn, impassioned father who earns a second chance at life after a stint in prison.
