Broward Cen­ter for Per­form­ing Arts hon­ors vol­un­teers

The Broward Cen­ter for the Per­form­ing Arts re­cently hon­ored 1,300 vol­un­teers who do­nated nearly 106,000 hours of com­mu­nity ser­vice dur­ing the past sea­son, the equiv­a­lent of an in-kind do­na­tion of more than $1 mil­lion.

More than 600 guests en­joyed the 22nd an­nual vol­un­teer recog­ni­tion lun­cheon at the Har­bor Beach Mar­riott Re­sort & Spa.

The vol­un­teers were greeted by more than 20 staff and board mem­bers fromthe Broward Cen­ter and the Broward Per­form­ing Arts Foun­da­tion. Kel­ley Shan­ley, Broward Cen­ter pres­i­dent and CEO, rec­og­nized their con­tri­bu­tions as he kicked off the an­nual awards cer­e­mony. “Your wel­com­ing smiles and your en­thu­si­asm for the events in all of our venues are in­stru­men­tal in mak­ing our pa­trons feel at home when they come to the the­ater. Your ded­i­ca­tion and ser­vice is in­valu­able as we be­gin the ex­cit­ing work to bring the next era of arts and en­ter­tain­ment to South Florida.”

The Broward Cen­ter rec­og­nized Pom­pano Beach res­i­dent Alice Braun-Pres­tia as the 2011-2012 “Vol­un­teer of the Year” for the 632 hours she contributed, which was the most of any vol­un­teer this past sea­son.

As a to­ken of ap­pre­ci­a­tion for her hard work, Braun-Pres­tia re­ceived a com­mem­o­ra­tive River­walk brick at the foot of the Broward Cen­ter steps, two round-trip tick­ets from Spirit Air­lines to any­where the air­line flies, a week­end stay at the River­side Ho­tel, a gift bas­ket do­nated by Broad­way Across Amer­ica, two Club Level seats to War Horse and two tick­ets to Tony Ben­nett at the Broward Cen­ter.

Vol­un­teers usher and serve as com­mu­nity am­bas­sadors for the Broward Cen­ter in down­town Fort Laud­erdale and its af­fil­i­ate venues - the Parker Play­house, the Rose & Al­fred Miniaci Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter atNova South­east­ernUniver­sity and the Aven­tura Arts & Cul­tural Cen­ter. Vol­un­teers com­mit for the en­tire sea­son to one of 10 weekly time pe­ri­ods, choos­ing from seven evening and three mati­nee per­for­mance sched­ules.

The Broward Cen­ter for the Per­form­ing Arts is one of Amer­ica’s pre­mier per­form­ing arts venues, pre­sent­ing more than 700 per­for­mances each year.
