Broward Center for Performing Arts honors volunteers
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts recently honored 1,300 volunteers who donated nearly 106,000 hours of community service during the past season, the equivalent of an in-kind donation of more than $1 million.
More than 600 guests enjoyed the 22nd annual volunteer recognition luncheon at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.
The volunteers were greeted by more than 20 staff and board members fromthe Broward Center and the Broward Performing Arts Foundation. Kelley Shanley, Broward Center president and CEO, recognized their contributions as he kicked off the annual awards ceremony. “Your welcoming smiles and your enthusiasm for the events in all of our venues are instrumental in making our patrons feel at home when they come to the theater. Your dedication and service is invaluable as we begin the exciting work to bring the next era of arts and entertainment to South Florida.”
The Broward Center recognized Pompano Beach resident Alice Braun-Prestia as the 2011-2012 “Volunteer of the Year” for the 632 hours she contributed, which was the most of any volunteer this past season.
As a token of appreciation for her hard work, Braun-Prestia received a commemorative Riverwalk brick at the foot of the Broward Center steps, two round-trip tickets from Spirit Airlines to anywhere the airline flies, a weekend stay at the Riverside Hotel, a gift basket donated by Broadway Across America, two Club Level seats to War Horse and two tickets to Tony Bennett at the Broward Center.
Volunteers usher and serve as community ambassadors for the Broward Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale and its affiliate venues - the Parker Playhouse, the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center atNova SoutheasternUniversity and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Volunteers commit for the entire season to one of 10 weekly time periods, choosing from seven evening and three matinee performance schedules.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is one of America’s premier performing arts venues, presenting more than 700 performances each year.
