Deliver the Dream to celebrate 10th anniversary with ‘Denim & Diamonds’

Sun Sentinel Broward Edition - Society Scene - Broward - - In The Know -

Deliver the Dream, a South Florida-based nonprofit that organizes retreat programs for families facing serious illness and crisis, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the “Denim & Diamonds” gala on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale.

With guests dressed in the comfort of their best denim, paired with those in formal attire, this signature event will boast new surprises, including a caviar-tasting bar. As always, the gala will feature an elegant cocktail reception, a delicious dining experience and plenty of dancing. The silent auction will include items such as a Goodyear blimp ride, trip packages and dining experiences.

BidPal will host the auction and provide iPod devices that allow guests to view items in a leisurely fashion, and in the comfort of their seats. The devices also notify guests each time they are outbid.

The Wheels of Hope “Wagon of Wonder” raffle will make its return to the gala, with a Radio Flyer wagon filled with the newest electronics, including a Roomba, a Samsung tablet and Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of ’Denim & Diamonds.’ Guests who have attended this event in the past, know how unique our efforts are to providing a full evening of fun and surprises, and this year will be no different,” said Paul Withrow, executive director. “It takes a village to make our mission possible, and the generosity of our community helps make a significant difference in the lives of countless families in crisis.”

“Denim & Diamonds” attracts more than 400 guests and funds raised will help Deliver the Dream to continue to bring as many as 15 families together at each monthly retreat.

Each family that attends has a member (child or parent) living with an illness, such as multiple sclerosis, cancer, autism, HIV/AIDS, Down syndrome or cerebral palsy. The retreats allow families to relax, enjoy time together, forge new friendships and create support groups with other families in similar circumstances.

When one person in a family is sick, the entire family is impacted. The program serves families and helps them enhance coping skills, reduce stress and cultivate relationships with other families, by combining traditional recreational activities with therapeutic workshops, peer-to-peer discussion groups and expressive arts and music activities. The retreats are provided at no cost to participants.

Sponsors for this year’s gala include Bluegreen Vacations, Coventry Health Care, an Aetna Company, 22 Squared, BankUnited and Citrix Systems Inc.

Gala tickets are $250 per person; $450 per couple. For more information, call Christie Galeano at 954-564-3512 or visit www.Deliv
