Lighting the night with balloons of hope: LLS walk
Anthony Hamawy, president of Cruise.com’s family of brands, has been named the 2013 Broward chairman for the annual “Light the Night” walk, hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) South Florida and Puerto Rico Chapter.
The event takes place Nov. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Huizenga Plaza, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, on the southeast corner of Las Olas and Andrews Avenue.
“We are grateful that Anthony Hamawy has been named to chair the Broward ‘Light The Night Walk’,” said Lisa Gaeta, chairwoman of the board of trustees for the Southern Florida and Puerto Rico Chapter of LLS. “We know that with Anthony’s help and the support of his employees, staff and vast network of travel/tourism contacts, this year’s walk will be a tremendous success.”
Each year, in communities across the United States and Canada, teams of families, friends, coworkers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for LLS’ “Light The Night” walk events, which bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.
Filled with inspiration, participants will carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Thousands of walkers - men, women and children - form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer.
“I am honored to lead the charge for the Broward ‘Light The Night’ walk,” said Hamawy. “The extended Cruise.com family is proud to support an event that finds cures and helps so many blood cancer patients and their families.”
As president of Cruise.com, Hamawy is responsible for the overall administration, management and strategic direction of the company. Prior to joining the company, he spent more than 25 years in different roles within the cruise industry, including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Costa Cruises. Hamawy received both his MBA and Bachelors degree from Nova Southeastern University. He is also an active member of the Dania Beach Chamber of Commerce.
