Boca Raton man, 46, dies in fiery car crash

A driver perished in a fiery predawn crash that happened Monday in Deerfield Beach.

Hernando Nieto, 46, of Boca Raton was declared dead at the scene, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Dispatchers were called around 3 a.m. about a vehicle that jumped a curb and struck a tree in a median along the 600 block of Powerline Road, north of West Hillsboro Boulevard, the sheriff’s office said.

Nieto was traveling north on Powerline Road when for unknown reasons, he lost control of his black pickup, according to the agency.

The truck caught on fire and Nieto was unable to escape the burning wreck. The crash scene did not reveal any signs that other vehicles were involved, sheriff’s spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.
