Jays end Yanks’ road win streak at 6

Pinch-hitter Russell Martin singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 3-1 on Monday night, snapping the Yankees’ road winning streak at six games.

Held scoreless for seven innings by Yankees right-hander Chase Whitley, the Blue Jays scored three in the eighth against relievers Chris Martin (0-1) and Dellin Betances.

Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista chased Martin with one-out singles before Edwin Encarnacio­n greeted Betances with a bloop double that landed just inside the foul line in shallow left. Nationals 6, Marlins 4: Tanner Roark fought back from a 3-0 count to strike out Giancarlo Stanton with a man on to end the game. The Nationals scored four in the eighth, two coming on Ian Desmond’s home run. Phillies 5, Braves 2: Jeff Francoeur had four hits and drove in two runs. Aaron Harang allowed one run over six innings. Rays 5, Red Sox 1: Jake Odorizzi pitched seven strong innings and Joey Butler hit his first career homer. David DeJesus drove in a pair of runs for the Rays. The Red Sox are 3-9 in their last 12. Brewers 4, Dodgers 3: The Brewers rallied for three in the eighth to win in Craig Counsell’s managerial debut. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw was denied his 100th career win. Cubs at Cardinals: The Cardinals had won 11 of 13 at home and the last six overall. The Cubs had lost three of four. Athletics at Twins: Twins starter Phil Hughes was 0-4 with a 4.55 ERA in the first year of a five-year contract. Twins had won last four overall. Rangers at Astros: Astros’ 18-7 start was franchise’s best after 25 games. They had won 10 straight, their longest streak since 12 in a row in 2004. Dallas Keuchel had MLB-best 0.73 ERA. Diamondbac­ks at Rockies: Rockies starter Tyler Matzek beat the D’backs last Monday to begin a six-game trip. That was the Rockies only win on the trip. Mariners at Angels: Felix Hernandez was 5-1 with a 1.07 ERA and 81 strikeouts in his last 59 innings against the Angels, including an opening-day win in which he struck out 10. Padres at Giants: Both teams had won three straight. Giants starter Madison Bumgarner was 0-2 with a 10.13 ERA in his last two starts against the Padres.
