Three-time track and field state cham­pion Damion Thomas com­mit­ted to LSU on Fri­day at North­east High School. Thomas, one of the top hur­dlers in the na­tion, has earned three con­sec­u­tive state ti­tles in the 110-me­ter hur­dles, while also sweep­ing district and re­gional ti­tles in the event for the past four years. The se­nior cur­rently holds the sec­ondbest high school time in the coun­try af­ter post­ing a13.43 at the Texas Re­lays in March.

Other signees from North­east in­clude Cabria Lee (FIU, bas­ket­ball), Ta’Ky­laAustin (NorthFlorida, bas­ket­ball), Is­abella Lopez (Auburn, bas­ket­ball), Kan­dis Tay­lor (Bryant, bas­ket­ball), Bryce San­chious (Western Ne­braska, bas­ket­ball), Peter Ch­ery (Western Ne­braska, bas­ket­ball), and Marsel Smith (Pearl River Col­lege, bas­ket­ball).

Plan­ta­tion High will host a cer­e­mony onMay 23, 2017, when four Colonels ath­letes will sign col­lege let­ters: Damian Lewis (Univer­sity of North Florida, track and field), Cheyanne Michael (Mary Bald­win Univer­sity, bas­ket­ball), Sher­man Parker (Fin­ger Lakes CC, Sun­Sen­tinel.com/ high­school bas­ket­ball), and Nabia At­tah (Val­dosta State, track and field).
