For the second straight season, Caitlyn Wurzburger took home one of the state’s top high school lacrosse awards.

The American HeritageDelray star attacker was named Florida Dairy Famers Miss Lacrosse after leading the Stallions to their first state title. The sophomore Syracuse commit continued her record-shattering high school career as she topped the 100 goal/100 assist plateau for the third consecutive season, totaling 105 goals, 114 assists. Wurzburger is the only high school player to hit the 100/ 100 mark in a single season.

On the boys side, Western attackman Michael Fox earned Mr. Lacrosse honors. The junior broke the state’s single season goal record with 111 for the regional semifinalist. Fox also dished out 41 assists for the Wildcats this season.

South Florida swept the coaching awards as well, with Jupiter’s Nick O’Hara and American HeritageDelray’s John McClain taking home the state’s top honors.

In his first year as the Jupiter’s coach, O’Hara led the team to a 21-2 record and its first state title. With its win over Bishop Moore, the Warriors became the first public school to win the Florida High School Athletic Association boys lacrosse state championship.

A longtime assistant, O’Hara flipped roles with former head coach Danny Loftus in the offseason. The duo, who both played lacrosse at Duke, came to Jupiter in 2009, with Loftus serving as coach and O’Hara as his right-hand man. Loftus elected to move into an assistant role in October, while O’Hara took the reins in 2018.

On the girls side, McClain earned Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Stallions to their first state title. McClain, who founded the program in 2015, has guided Heritage from infancy to national powerhouse in four short seasons. The Stallions finished the season 23-1 and ranked No. 5 in the nation by Lacrosse Magazine.
