Osweiler remains starter at QB in place of Tannehill

- By Safid Deen

DAVIE — Dolphins backup quarterback Brock Osweiler will start his fifth straight game in place of injured starter Ryan Tannehill when the team plays its Week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers (3-4-1) on Sunday.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase announced the move on Wednesday.

The Dolphins (5-4) have a 2-2 record under Osweiler, who has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 1,034 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions in the five games he has played in this season.

“Any time you get to play in a venue like that, it’s something special. It adds a little something extra to the game. I’m very excited to play at Lambeau Field,” Osweiler said Wednesday. “It’s a great honor. Bring on the weather, bring on the snow, whatever they have. It’ll just make the experience a little better.”

Tannehill, who continues to nurse a capsule injury to his right shoulder, has already missed four consecutive games since he first suffered the injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5.

The Dolphins hope Tannehill will return to start in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 25.

The Packers game will be Tannehill’s 25th game missed due to injury since Gase became Dolphins coach in 2016.

Overall, the Dolphins are 21-20 in 41 games under Gase.

Tannehill has not thrown a pass in the portion of Dolphins practice open to media in the last three weeks.

Osweiler, who will play for they second time in Green Bay, knows he must play better to lead the Dolphins offense, which failed to score a touchdown in a game for the first time this season in last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

The Dolphins needed a pick-six touchdown from rookie linebacker Jerome Baker and two field goals from rookie Jason Sanders in the 13-6 win.

“We’ve underachieved in some football games, but we’re working very hard to get that cleaned up so that we can score more touchdowns and we can score more points,”Osweiler said.

“This offense has very lofty goals. We set the standard very high for what we’re trying to accomplish every week and sometimes you’re not going to accomplish that. But I can promise you, it’s not from a lack of work ethic.”
