Days of Art: Local artists receive honor for their work
On August 2, Boca Festival Days kicked off this season with the 23rd annual Open Juried Art Exhibit Reception at the Courtyard Building. Local artist and members of the Boca Raton Museum Artists’ Guild participated in the event by submitting four exceptional pieces of art to be juried by Carol Prusa, a well-accomplished artist, who’s work is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, the Arkansas Arts Center, the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art collection and the Telfair Art Museum.
“It was a pleasure to have accepted the charge of jurying this event, knowing that I would be presented with an incredible array of diverse work from the vibrant South Florida Artist community,” said Prusa, who also chose the winners of the 23 annual Juried Art Exhibition.
First place winner was presented to photographer Joel Cossrow for “Stairway to the Stars.” Second place winner was awarded to painter Adrian Catao for “Bulls on Parade/Adny. Third place winner was presented to photographer Alan Glueckert for “Victory” Paris, France. And Gene Shurakov was awarded with honorable mention for “Surreal Poem.”
Boca Festival Days began in 1970 and is a month-long, citywide series of more than 40 events held during the month of August where the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce pairs participating non-profit members with for-profit members in an attempt to raise money for the non-profits. “In jurying this event I selected works that support my desire to see art that is well made, yet functions beyond craftthat offers me something I have never seen before,” adds Prusa, who studied painting and was awarded an M.F.A. in painting and drawing from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.
The Boca Festival Days 23 annual Open Juried Art Exhibit is open to the public and held at the Courtyard Building.
