Community leaders compete for mirror ball trophy
Community leaders will dance the night away in hopes of earning the coveted mirror ball trophy - and helping a local charity.
“Boca’s Ballroom Battle 2013” will take place Aug. 16 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The sixth annual dance competition is formatted after the popular “Dancing with the Stars” television program.
Money raised from the event will benefit the George Snow Scholarship Fund.
“This year we have a lineup that is impressive — and motivated,” said TimSnow, president of the George Snow Scholarship Fund. “This is the ‘do not miss’ event of the summer as eight of our community’s most recognizable personalities take to the dance floor for a good cause.”
Community leaders will be paired with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio Boca Raton. They will be given a series of dance lessons to perfect a routine and compete for the grand prize at a cocktail reception and dance.
This year’s “Boca’s Ballroom Battle” dancers are: Mark Brockelman, SVP chief financial and administrative officer of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium; Gary Collins, general manager of Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club, A Toll Brothers Community; Dr. AnthonyN. Dardano, a plastic surgeon; Dorothy MacDiarmid, a partner at Cloud 9 Consulting; Marie Occhigrossi, an attorney at Weitz & Luxenberg; S. Chris Palermo, founder and CEO of Global CommunicationNetworks Inc.; RobynNassetta, vice president of Nassetta Marketing; and Marie Speed, editor of Boca Magazine.
The evening will kickoff at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and live entertainment. The competition will begin at 7 p.m., and an after party is set to take place in the Palm Court. Tony Dovolani, winner of season 15 “Dancing with the Stars: All Stars,” will be an honorary judge.
This time last year, Beth Osborne and Peter Baronoff were hard at work perfecting their dance routines. This year, they’re working with the other co-chairs, Brad Osborne and Carmel Pasquale to help produce the event.
The presenting sponsor of “Boca’s Ballroom Battle” is the Occhigrossi Family. “Mirror Ball” sponsors include Boca Raton Resort & Club, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Gregory’s Fine Jewelry, Investments Limited, Mercedes Benz of Delray, Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton, Daszkal Bolton LLP, Heir Finders LLC and Photosbyblack.com.
Tickets start at $150 and include two cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
The George Snow Scholarship Fund provides educational grants to young scholars. These scholarships are four-year commitments and are designed to bridge the gap between other financial aid and what the scholars and their families can afford.
