Raising a glass to the coast: Gumbo Limbo Center fundraiser
Friends of Gumbo Limbo Nature Center will host its fifth annual “Sea Coast Toast” fundraiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m., on Nov. 8, at the Spanish River Library, 1501 Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton. The event will take place at the library’s rooftop terrace and will honor Jim Abernethy for his work as an educator, conservationist and advocate for shark protection.
Abernethy is a world-renowned, award-winning marine photographer, filmmaker and author. Guests at the “Sea Coast Toast” will be treated to an assortment of hors d’oeuvres, desserts and wine, provided by Whole Foods Market of Boca Raton, and craft beer provided by Lagerhead Brewing Co. Additional sponsors include Eco-Products and Geosyntec Consultants Inc.
A tropical steel-drum band will be playing music into the evening, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on an extensive list of items and packages at a silent auction - including a ride for two aboard the Goodyear Blimp. In addition, there will be a private wine tasting party for 20 guests, four tickets to Disney World and more.
“Whole Foods Market is a company with conscience, and we believe passionately in supporting the Boca Raton community,” said Andrew Winninger, marketing team leader of Whole Foods of Boca Raton. “Given Gumbo Limbo’s dedication to Boca wildlife and coastal conservation, and our similar missions of education and sustainability, we feel the partnership is natural. We have chosen to sponsor the Sea Coast Toast to demonstrate our commitment to our shared ideals, showcase some of our delicious seasonal food and drink, and help raise money for a great community partner.”
The benefit evening under the stars affords the community an opportunity to celebrate Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s efforts to support coastal and marine education, conservation, preservation and research. The event offers an exciting evening of food, drink, music and auctions - with all of the proceeds going directly to grow and maintain Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s educational and conservation programs.
Pre-sale member registration is $40, and pre-sale non-member tickets are $50. After Nov. 1, tickets will be $55 for everyone and available the night of the event. For more information, visit www.gumbolimbo.org.
