‘Un­lock the Fu­ture’ opens doors for teen moms

More than 100 sup­port­ers at­tended the in­au­gu­ral “Un­lock the Fu­ture” soiree at the Old Palm Golf Club onNov. 9 ben­e­fit­ing The Open Door, a non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion ded­i­cated to men­tor­ing teen moth­ers in Palm Beach County.

Vol­un­teers and men­tors from the or­ga­ni­za­tion are com­mit­ted to break­ing the gen­er­a­tional cy­cles by pro­vid­ing each teen momwith a Chris­tian men­tor. Through sup­ple­ment­ing the cost of child­care, The Open Door works to help each teen mom con­tinue their ed­u­ca­tion, gain em­ploy­ment, at­tend weekly life skill classes, de­lay fur­ther preg­nan­cies and to even­tu­ally be­come in­de­pen­dent from fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance.

Guests were in­vited to a Tommy Ba­hama-style evening of wine and beer, cigar rolling and an auc­tion. Items in­cluded trips to Pue­blo Bonito’s Ocean­front Re­sorts & Spas, a pri­vate home in Cabo San Lu­cas, a stay at the Xbal­anque’s Re­sort Villa in Hon­duras, a wish­ing ex­pe­ri­ence with the Black and Blue Mar­lin Fish­ing Club in Costa Rica, a stay in a condo on the beach in Mi­ami, Wine Sage’s wine tast­ing for a party of ten and a wine tast­ing aboard a 100 foot yacht pro­vided by Chat­teau Ta­nunda.

At­tend­ing the event were chairs Linda and Jon Drettmann, Sheri and Jeff Nel­son, Sherry and Mark Mur­phy, Ellen and Chuck Hobbs, Dr. Chris Ram­sey, Dr. Karina Leal, Michelle Eassa, Lisa and Charles Ger­ardi, Erin and Sean McGould, and Charles Ben­der.
