Place of Hope provides ‘Wings’ of stability to adult foster children
On Feb. 27, a hangar party will bring together planes, automobiles and fashion to benefit young people who age out of foster care, yet still need a place to call home.
Place of Hope at the Haven Campus in western Boca Raton will host “Wings, Wheels & Heels” - a social event featuring a live auction of luxury recreational activities, live music, a DJ and tapas from the area’s popular restaurants - all taking place at the hangar of Signature Flight Support in Boca Raton.
Sponsored by Lamborghini Palm Beach, “Wings, Wheels & Heels” will raise funds to create a cottage home especially for emancipated youth, those who age out of foster care, but who still need family-style support and guidance. Designed in the model of Villages of Hope in Palm Beach, the new cottage will be supported by a new program called Alumni Impact Project. The program will encourage local alumni of universities, fraternities, sororities and other institutions to support the alumni of the foster care system, providing the youth with a network of friends and mentors.
“Wings, Wheels & Heels” is the first fundraiser to support this new element of the new Place of Hope at the Haven Campus, which is an extension of Place of Hope, a foster care community in Palm Beach Gardens. The event committee is co-chaired by Denise Day and Jennifer Lentoski.
“Each of us on the committee has benefited in some form from being a part of a network, whether it is from our family, school, work or volunteer organizations. When a young man or woman ages out of foster care, they typically don’t have this kind of circle to lean on,” said Day.
“’Wings, Wheels & Heels’ is a way for us to use our alumni connections to create alumni connections for these young people,” added Lentoski. “At Place of Hope at the Haven Campus, they will continue to learn how to be a productive, confident adults in a cottage setting that is safe, nurturing and family-oriented.”
Tickets are $100 per person. For more information, call Lisa McDulin at 561-483-0962 or visit www.hopeatthehaven.org.
