Hold ‘em or punt ‘em for Delray Beach Athletic Club
Guests can join the Delray BeachAthletic Club (DBAC) May16 - 18 to play casino games, taste wine and/or play soccer for a funweekend of fundraising.
DBAC, which has provided youth soccer programs in the city for the past 36 years, will sponsor two major fundraising events to benefit the club’s scholarship program. B.E.A.S.T. Fitness of Delray Beach, which regularly trains the club’s young soccer players in speed and agility, will sponsor a third community event that weekend in the club’s honor.
As a nonprofit organization, the Delray BeachAthletic Club is supported entirely by player registration fees and private donations. The club has a time-honored tradition of offering scholarships (reduced registration fees) so that no player is turned away due to financial hardship. Attending one or all of the events during the weekend will help allow the club to continue offering these opportunities.
Theweekend’s first event, “Vino LasVegas,” will take place May16 from7 to10:30 p.m. at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square in the historic gymnasium. The evening will include casino games and prizes, Texas Hold ’Em poker, finger foods, wine tasting and craft beer from Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place Texas Hold ’Em players, with a grand prize value of more than $1,000. For seat reservations (required) and tickets, visit www.delrayac.com.
Compliments of B.E.A.S.T. Fitness, the “Family Fitness Fun Day” will take place May17 from 11a.m. to1p.m. at the Delray Beach Community Center (next to Tennis Center). The day will include fitness competitions, raffles and is free to the public. Kids and adults are welcome.
The inaugural Delray Beach Corporate 5 v 5 tournament, “Just for Kicks,” will take place May18 from3 p.m. until early evening at Seacrest Soccer Complex and Hilltopper Field. Eight local companieswill field teams and compete for the championship. Teams will consist of seven employees, including at least twowomen, plus two players fromDBAC’s U14 boys’ team. “5 v 5” soccer is a fast-paced game played on a smaller field with just five players fromeach team on the field at any time.
