Norwegian booking conservation cruise with Guy Harvey
Norwegian Cruise Line and Guy Harvey are teaming up again. The man who designed the hull art on its biggest cruise ship, Norwegian Escape, will be sailing on the same ship as part of ocean conservation themed cruise this October.
“Conservation and sustainability are bedrock values of Norwegian Cruise Line, and the opportunity to further educate guests on the importance of marine conservation to help ensure that future generations will enjoy and benefit from a naturally balanced ocean ecosystem is one that we are incredibly excited about,” said Norwegian Cruise Line President and CEO Andy Stuart in a press release. “Guy Harvey has been an incredible partner and his passion for our oceans is unmatched. We are thrilled to invite guests to join us onboard for this once-in-alifetime cruise.”
Escape will sail from Miami on an eastern Caribbean, seven-night cruise leaving Oct. 21. The sailing is a partnership with Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Nova Southeastern University’s Guy Harvey Research Institute.
Escape’s hull features 31,700 gallons of paint across 1,100 feet showing Harvey’s signature marine life images, including a giant sailfish as well as other Caribbean mainstays like turtles and stingrays.
“The Norwegian Escape is now the largest billboard for the conservation of marine life bringing new awareness not only for all of those who set sail on her but also for those who just look at her,” Harvey said at the christening. “Healthy oceans make all of this beauty that you see in my artwork possible.”
The special sailing will feature on-board events including discussions on marine conservation, shark tagging and tracking, the making of a shark documentary and more. There will also be an opportunity to do live painting with Harvey.
Each day will be a different theme while the ship will make stops in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Island; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas.
The 4,200-passenger Escape debuted in 2015 and sails year-round from PortMiami. The first of the line’s Breakaway Plus Class, Escape has a lot of South Florida touches, including a Margaritaville at Sea, a re-created space that pays homage to Tobacco Road, Miami’s oldest bar, which closed its doors in 2014, the presence of the Wynwood Brewing Company in the District Brew House and the Food Republic, a dining concept from the Pubbelly Group, which has opened several restaurants across South Florida.

“You’re going to be amazed,” Harvey said. “We’re going to put some fantastic presentations during sea times about all research work and conservation efforts right here in the Caribbean.”
