Man faces extortion charges
there she had been coerced into engaging in sexual conduct on a webcam by someone who contacted her online through a social networking site claiming to be another teenage girl, New Jersey authorities said.
That person, who investigators say was Derringer, tricked the teen by sending her a video of a young girl engaging in a sex act and claiming to be that girl.
After convincing the 15-year-old to expose herself in front of her webcam, Derringer recorded the act and then revealed his true identity, the indictment said.
He then got on his own webcam “and told her that if she didn’t do as he told her he would post the video of her” online, Porrino said.
Derringer’s goal, according to investigators, was to force the girls to perform various sex acts on their webcams.
Porrino said the teen was able to take a cellphone picture of Derringer’s face and police in Minnesota were able to trace his communications to the Union City address where Derringer was living at the time.
Forensic examination of computer equipment seized from Derringer led investigators to the other four teenage girls, according to the indictment, which indicates that all the incidents took place prior to 2013.
Derringer is facing charges that include extortion, distributing child pornography and debauching the morals of a child. He will be ordered to appear in a New Jersey court for an arraignment on a date that has not yet been set.
