Drunken driving’s toll ignored

-

I can only hope that your recent article “Charges filed year after crash” was in error stating that driving under the influence in a crash that resulted in two deaths was a misdemeanor.

I have lived in South Florida for almost 50 years now and I am extremely disgusted with the cavalier attitude toward drunken driving shown by our elected officials. How many hundreds more have to die or lose body parts at the hands of drunken drivers before we put some teeth in our laws?

It is no accident when a drunken driver runs you down. It is the expected result of alcohol consumption and driving. Leaving a 6 year old an orphan because you decide to drive while drunk and kill both her parents is certainly no misdemeanor. Alan Brown, Plantation
