Ron Berg­eron is among the win­ners of the Sun Sen­tinel’s Ex­cal­ibur Awards.

A de­vel­oper, en­ergy en­tre­pre­neur, ho­tel real es­tate de­vel­oper and the head of a real es­tate con­sul­tancy were hon­ored Wed­nes­day evening as win­ners of the Sun Sen­tinel’s Ex­cal­ibur Awards.

The awards, which have rec­og­nized busi­ness achieve­ment and civic con­tri­bu­tions an­nu­ally since 1978, were pre­sented at the Boca Ra­ton Re­sort & Club.

Ron Berg­eron, CEO of the Berg­eron Fam­ily of Cos., which over­sees 60 pri­vately held com­pa­nies, won Large Busi­ness Leader of the Year in Broward County for his phi­lan­thropy and for spear­head­ing in­fra­struc­ture and hous­ing de­vel­op­ment growth. Ramola Mot­wani, chair­woman of Mer­ri­mac Ven­tures in Fort Laud­erdale, is cred­ited for help­ing to trans­form Fort Laud­erdale’s beach­front into a world-class ho­tel and tourist des­ti­na­tion. She was named Small Busi­ness Leader of the Year in Broward.

Wil­liam Koch, CEO of Oxbow Car­bon LLC in West Palm Beach, was named Large Busi­ness Leader of the Year in Palm Beach County. He was cited for his con­tri­bu­tions to ed­u­ca­tion and lo­cal law en­force­ment. An­thony K.G. Bar­bar, pres­i­dent and CEO of Bar­bar & As­so­ciates, a real es­tate con­sul­tancy in Boca Ra­ton, was hon­ored for his con­tri­bu­tions in the de­vel­op­ment field and com­mu­nity in­volve­ment, which in­cludes his multi-year ser­vice as chair­man of the board of trustees of his alma mater, Florida At­lantic Univer­sity. He was named Small Busi­ness Leader of the Year in Palm Beach County.

Win­ners were se­lected by pan­els of past busi­ness lead­ers of the year from Broward and Palm Beach coun­ties, and by Sun Sen­tinel Me­dia Group se­nior man­age­ment.
