Straily has been neither sparkling nor struggling in his first three starts of the year, most recently in a 6-3 win over the Braves on May 11. In that game, Straily lasted a season-high five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking three. He threw a season-high 102 pitches. Dating to last season, Straily has given up at least one home run in 11 of his past 12 starts. … Newcomb has been one of Atlanta’s best pitchers this season, helping guide the Braves to the top of the National League East. His last outing was against the Marlins on Sunday, when he extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings by tossing six innings of one-hit ball. Newcomb has not allowed a run since April 26.
