What will Marlins’ 26th anniversary story be? We’ll see.

-

I loved the story in Sunday’s paper recapping highlights of the Marlins 25th season. I lived through every one of those events and loved every minute.

Here’s the lead for next year’s 26th anniversary story: “Jeter and Sherman take Marlins to Las Vegas after dismal year in Miami.” The New York sharpies knew the financial condition when they grossly overpaid for the Marlins. But instead of building around a solid core of exciting players and relishing the return of the fans — and big crowds buying Jeter’s $10 beer, while they worked on starting pitching — they defrauded the fans and now complain about poor attendance.

It’s all just a front for carrying out the long-term plan; screw the local fans for a year and blame lousy attendance for the move to a market with open arms and an open checkbook. Well, how about Vegas? Write it down because that’s (sadly) what we’re going to see. Harvey Starin, Delray Beach
