— Open Dec. 8 to 10 during Christmas in St. Michaels weekend, the Marketplace, in the Granite Lodge on St. Mary’s Square, will be bursting with handcrafted and artisan items for the holidays.
In addition to holiday arrangements and wreaths, you will find homemade jams, jellies, nuts in festive containers, ornaments, canvas bags, gifts for pet lovers and their pets, tabletop decorations and more.
“This year, we are excited to be offering several exclusive Marketplace items, including hand-etched wineglasses, plus jewelr y and tabletop sculpture from two local artists with growing national reputations,” said Michelle O’Connor, event chairman of Christmas in St Michaels.
One of the new artists is Jan Kirsh, a Bozman landscape designer and artist who began creating large-scale fruits and vegetables for her landscape design clients nearly a decade ago. Kirsh now has begun translating those designs into tabletop sculptures and jewelry. The Marketplace also will offer Kirsh’s trio of charming birds dubbed “Stretch, Wonder and Dip,” as well as several fruit and vegetable pieces, plus a limited number of Kirsh’s new fig pendants. Each pendant is finished in a bronze mix and features a center of Swarovski crystals.
Another first this year, the Marketplace has commissioned hand-etched wineglasses from Simply Dragonfly in St Michaels. These wineglasses feature the Hooper Island Lighthouse, now on the grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
Popular Kent Island artist Wende Woodham of Ribbons Across the Chesapeake also will make her Marketplace debut this year with a few of her woven pictures. Woodham is known for creating colorful paintings out of ribbons and trims that she creates or gathers during her travels.
The Marketplace is open from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 10. All proceeds from this and other Christmas in St Michaels events fund local nonprofit organizations dedicated to ser ving the needs of Talbot County residents.
