Fed­er­als­burg man dies in car crash

Jef­frey Travis But­ler Jr., 31, of Fed­er­als­burg died Thurs­day, Nov. 23, af­ter crash­ing his car into a parked po­lice ve­hi­cle.

CH­ESTER — A Fed­er­als­burg man died Thurs­day, Nov. 23, af­ter crash­ing his car into a parked po­lice ve­hi­cle.

Troopers from the Mary­land State Po­lice Cen­tre­ville Bar­racks re­sponded about 9:04 p.m. to 240 Do­min­ion Road in Ch­ester to as­sist the Queen Anne’s County Sher­iff’s Of­fice with an un­re­lated do­mes­tic dis­tur­bance. The po­lice of­fi­cers were in the front yard of the res­i­dence when they heard a ve­hi­cle trav­el­ing south at a high rate of speed, po­lice said.

As the sound got louder, po­lice of­fi­cers saw a gray 2007 Honda Ac­cord ap­proach­ing; the car crossed the cen­ter line, trav­eled across the lane for on­com­ing traf­fic and hit an un­oc­cu­pied, un­marked, blue Ford Ex­plorer MSP pa­trol ve­hi­cle that was parked on the shoul­der of Do­min­ion Road, ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports. The Ex­plorer had its rear emer­gency lights ac­ti­vated at the time of the crash, po­lice said.

Lo­cal vol­un­teer fire­fight­ers re­sponded to ex­tri­cate the driver, who po­lice iden­ti­fied as Jef­frey Travis But­ler Jr., 31, of Fed­er­als­burg. But­ler was taken by ambulance to the Queen Anne’s County Emer­gency Cen­ter, where he was pro­nounced dead shortly af­ter ar­rival at 9:51 p.m., po­lice said.

The in­ci­dent is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated by the MSP Crash Team, the Cen­tre­ville Bar­racks and the Mary­land Chief Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner’s Of­fice.
