CHESTER — A Federalsburg man died Thursday, Nov. 23, after crashing his car into a parked police vehicle.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Centreville Barracks responded about 9:04 p.m. to 240 Dominion Road in Chester to assist the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office with an unrelated domestic disturbance. The police officers were in the front yard of the residence when they heard a vehicle traveling south at a high rate of speed, police said.
As the sound got louder, police officers saw a gray 2007 Honda Accord approaching; the car crossed the center line, traveled across the lane for oncoming traffic and hit an unoccupied, unmarked, blue Ford Explorer MSP patrol vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of Dominion Road, according to police reports. The Explorer had its rear emergency lights activated at the time of the crash, police said.
Local volunteer firefighters responded to extricate the driver, who police identified as Jeffrey Travis Butler Jr., 31, of Federalsburg. Butler was taken by ambulance to the Queen Anne’s County Emergency Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 9:51 p.m., police said.
The incident is being investigated by the MSP Crash Team, the Centreville Barracks and the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
