Ailing father of three needs an organ transplant
Roxanne’s days and nights are full of work — waiting on customers in the store where she works during the Christmas rush and returning home late each evening to care for her three children.
Her husband, Jerry, has been very sick for a long, long time.
The family has spent a lot of their income on medication and treatments to make Jerry better. For a while, they helped.
Even so, Jerry’s situation became gradually worse, and he stopped working. His health has continued a slow decline.
Recently, doctors have said an organ transplant is the only hope for Jerry to live a normal life.
Because of finances, the organ transplant process and the costs of such a surgery in Maryland, Jerry has left the family and moved to another state in hopes of better chances of getting the transplant.
Jerry needed a lot of care when he was at home, but now that he is gone, Roxanne is very depressed.
She misses her husband and finds the life of constant work, living on a shoestring and caring for the children harder and harder to take.
She has no car or transportation, so she walks to work every day from their home in the south of Easton to the store where she works on U.S. Route 50, then walks back home every evening after dark.
Roxanne tries not to despair but wonders what is going to become of them.
For her the approaching holidays unfortunately have filled her with dread — a reminder that they are not very well off and the fragile lives that they are leading. Your donation to The Star
