EASTON — The third annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Waterfowl Building in Easton, is looking for local sponsors for this year’s event.

CCBF is seeking funds to purchase about 900 books written by the authors who will be participating at the festival. These books will be signed by the authors and distributed to children in the community through the Talbot County Free Library’s Summer Reading program.

This year’s festival, produced in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library, will feature more than 30 children’s book authors and illustrators, who will give readings, answer questions and autograph their books.

Other activities will include music, food and beverages, exhibits and crafts.

The participating authors include several award winners, and their books cover a variety of subjects for children of all ages up to pre-teen.

Books will be available for purchase at a discount. The proceeds from these sales will be used to pay for books to be distributed to local programs dedicated to promoting children’s literacy.

The festival is being held in conjunction with the annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Academy Art Museum. Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in the country, and this year is the bicentennial of the birth of Frederick Douglass in Talbot County.

“Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival looks forward to sharing the joy of reading and the excitement of meeting authors with our youngest citizens,” said Timothy Young, CCBF founder. “Both the Talbot County Free Library and Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival are committed to increasing reading proficiency through the gift of a book to as many children as possible. Literacy is a human right and the foundation of all learning.”

All funds collected for the Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival will be processed through the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. Make checks payable to Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival and mail to The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival at P.O. Box 43, Easton, MD 21601.
