A Republican who is a true fiscal conservative

Sunday Star - - OPINION -

Laura Price has consistently voted on budget issues as a fiscal conservative, which as a lifelong Republican, I applaud. At times, her insistence that money be spent wisely without tapping into capital funds to pay for recurring expenses has been unpopular, but she has voted her principles.

The concept she published in a guest comment in March laid the foundation for the revenue cap increase.

It is important that, in raising the revenue cap, we have a county council who will see that the additional funds are spent for the capital projects and emergency services for which they are intended and that the council continues a policy of fiscal restraint. Interest rates are increasing and the cost of borrowing money is likely to be higher than anticipated a year ago.

As a retiree, I want to keep our property taxes low, and I certainly do not want spending to get out of control. I trust Laura to keep our spending in check. She has my vote. FRAN BERGERE Trappe
