Historic Edna E. Lockwood is launched
The historic bugeye Edna E. Lockwood is slowly lowered into the Miles River on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony that included prayers, the sprinkling of holy water, the smashing of spirit bottles, cheers, and a water salute by the St. Michaels Fire and Rescue boat. The 1889 vessel has been restored, stem to stern, in a two-year labor of love by a team of shipwrights at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. The boat represents the last of her kind, and is considered to be queen of the museum’s floating fleet. She is registered as a National Historic Landmark.
