Cashier files suit against Aldi

Tampa Bay Times - - Business -

A Tampa woman has filed a suit against Aldi Inc. alleging the German grocery store chain illegally obtains background reports on employees and job applicants. Ericka Hurtado is seeking class-action status for her suit filed in Hillsborough County Circuit Court last week. Hurtado said Aldi initially hired her as a cashier in Tampa in May. She alleges the employer acquires background reports without a federally required, standalone disclosure. Her lawsuit also maintains that Aldi used such reports to make adverse employment decisions such as termination, reduction of hours, change in position, failure to hire and failure to promote. Aldi has more than 15 locations throughout Tampa Bay. Representatives of the company were not immediately available for comment Friday.
