You’ll always remember your first one

Tampa Bay Times - - Raysreport -

Tampa native/Hernando High product Christian Arroyo was excited to make his first start Thursday (playing third, hitting seventh) for the Rays team he grew up watching. “It’ll be interesting just to wear the jersey,’’ he said. “It’s like a childhood dream come true.’’ Arroyo was called up from Triple A when Gomez went on the disabled list Wednesday. Arroyo seems likely to get playing time as the Rays face a heavy dose of lefty starters over the next week, more so if Hechavarria ends up on the DL. With Duffy expected back in the lineup Saturday, Arroyo, acquired from the Giants in the Evan Longoria trade in December, could be used at shortstop or second base, with the possibility that Robertson could get a start in the outfield.
