• Duffy (right hamstring tightness) said he felt much better Thursday, including after work on the elliptical and in the batting cage, and is targeting a Saturday return to the lineup, though he still has to take ground balls and run the bases. “Just making sure — we’re in that kind of mode,’’ he said.
• RHP Nathan Eovaldi (arthroscopic elbow surgery) will work three innings or 50 pitches tonight for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, his start pushed back three days after some right-side soreness and shifted from Triple-A Durham due to weather concerns. He will stay with the Crabs to work out for several days, with a decision pending on whether he will make a fourth start or rejoin the Rays next week.
• Gomez (right groin strain) said he was also feeling better and hopes to come off the DL when eligible May 26 or shortly thereafter, with a plan to slowly resume activities “step by step,” starting today.
• RHP Yonny Chirinos (forearm strain) has started throwing bullpen sessions that manager Kevin Cash said are “going really well.” The Rays are eyeing an early June return.
