Tampa Bay Times - - Business -

Honeywell Aerospace is closing its plant in Albuquerque, N.M., and a small number of those jobs are headed to its facility in Clearwater, the company said Friday. “Honeywell has decided to move manufacturing and engineering operations from Albuquerque to other U.S. facilities by the end of next year,” Honeywell spokesman Scott Sayres said in an email to the Tampa Bay Times. “This is not a decision we made lightly as we realize this, unfortunately, affects valued employees. We’re encouraging employees to apply for other Honeywell positions, in some cases offering relocation. Eligible employees will be offered severance and outplacement assistance.” Sayres said “a handful of jobs” will be posted for the company’s aerospace facility at U.S. 19 and Ulmerton Road. The Albuquerque Journal reported that other positions from the 500,000square-foot New Mexico plant will go to Honeywell sites in Arizona and Puerto Rico. In New Mexico, the company’s work has mainly concerned military and government contracts. The Journal reported the company believes those operations can be more efficiently managed by integrating them into other facilities.
