MTV Video Music Awards— Adele, Drake, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Britney Spears are all expected to be in the house for this year’s ceremony, which is being held at Madison Square Garden for the first time. But unless Kanye does something ridiculous again, the night’s real star figures to be Beyoncé. Queen Bey leads everyone with 11 nomination­s, including video of the year for her bold and visually striking “Formation.” 8 p.m., MTV.

Ready to get creeped out by “The Strain” again? Season 3 picks up two weeks after the events of last season’s finale. War has broken out between the citizens of New York City and sinister vampires known as the strigoi. 9 p.m., FX.

The summer’s most compelling drama series, “The Night Of,” concludes tonight. So did Naz (Riz Ahmed) really kill Andrea? And if he didn’t, who did? 8 p.m., HBO.

Tuesday

It’s summer finale time for “Pretty Little Liars,” so expect some kind of gasp-inducing cliffhange­r. The episode, we’re told, involves “a chaotic fight that ends fatally.” 7 p.m., Freeform.

Wednesday

On the Season 3 premiere of the brutally funny “You’re the Worst,” Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) adjust to life in the wake of that surprising “I love you” declaratio­n. We don’t foresee smooth sailing. 9 p.m., FXX.

“Greenleaf” has been filled with scandalous secrets and lies, so we’re braced for even more drama as the show closes out its first season tonight. Will Grace (Merle Dandridge) pay a heavy price for bringing shame to her family’s megachurch? 9 p.m., OWN.

Thursday

There will be robot blood during the Season 2 finale of “BattleBots.” Tonight’s action starts with eight competitor­s looking to capture the ultimate prize: The Giant Nut. And, no, we’re not making this up. 7 p.m., ABC.

The dysfunctio­nal band at the

center of “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll” just can’t along. So it seems like a good time for Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies) to go in a new direction and Johnny (Denis Leary) to work on a solo project. 9 p.m., FX.

“Killjoys” wraps up its second season and we’re guessing that someone gets killed. Just a hunch.8 p.m., Syfy.
